Mrs. Lena Wetle Dies at Age of 87
Mrs. Lena Wetle, 87 years old, died here Saturday evening at 8 o’clock in the St. Charles hospital where she had been taken a few days previously, after many years of failing health. Mrs. Wetle, a native of Germany, had been bedfast the past six years after coming here 15 years ago from The Dalles to make her home with her son, John Wetle, 530 Trenton. Special rosary services were held last evening at the Niswonger and Winslow funeral chapel, attended by many friends who will be unable to attend the services Tuesday morning in The Dalles.
Mr. and Mrs. John Wetle and daughter, Helen, accompanies by Mrs. Leo Herbring, left Bend this morning for The Dalles to complete arrangements for the funeral, which will be held at 10 a.m. Tuesday from St. Peter’s Catholic church, with Rev. R. Nooy officiating.
Besides her son and granddaughter in Bend, Mrs. Wetle is survived by the following other sons: Clem and George Wetle of Portland; Chris Wetle of Walla Walla, Wash; and Fred Wetle of The Dalles; and the following other grandchildren, Robert and John Wetle, Jr., both of Bend and now in the armed forces; Mrs. George Ritchie of Portland.
Mrs. Wetle was a member of a pioneer family in The Dalles.
