The Ohlegschlagers Immigrate To America

Last week I searched some of the 1880 – 1920 Federal Census records. I have not been able to find Jacob and Elizabeth Ohlegschlager in 1900, this being one of the years that show the year of immigration and if the person is naturalized. However, their daughter Appolena and son Chris list their year of immigration as 1873.

Based on that information I searched the “Germans to America” indexes for that time frame and found the following:

Ship: Minister Roon
From: Bremen and Southampton
To: New York
Arrived: 15 October 1874

Oligschlaeger, Elise, age 39, female, occupation unknown, from Germany to USA
(probably truncated because of length - Elizabeth Gould),
. . . . . . . . Johann, age 16, male, occupation unknown, from Germany to USA
. . . . . . . . Appolonia, age 10, female, child, from Germany to USA
. . . . . . . . Margaretha, age 9, child, from Germany to USA
. . . . . . . . Christoph, age 8, male, child, from Germany to USA
. . . . . . . . Philipp, age 7, male, child, from Germany to USA
. . . . . . . . Jacob, age 4, male, child, from Germany to USA
. . . . . . . . Adam, age 3, male, child, from Germany to USA
. . . . . . . . Franz, age 2, male, child, from Germany to USA
. . . . . . . . Susanna, age 10 mo, child, from Germany to USA

Missing is Jacob, the father of this family. He probably immigrated earlier. Further searches may find Jacob and Elizabeth listed in the 1900 census and hopeful, we will learn his year of immigration. If he arrived at a location not on the east coast it is unlikely that he would be listed in “Germans to America” as that index mostly records those arriving on the eastern seaboard.
